In the novel "The Third Angel" by Alice Hoffman, the main character is Madeline Heller, also known as Maddy. In the beginning, Hoffman describes Maddy as a brilliant woman but with wrong choices. Maddy was an attorney in New York and graduated from Oberlin and NYU Law School. Recently, Maddy has flown to London from New York to help out her sister Allie for her wedding. The hotel that she was staying at, described how horribly in love she was with the wrong guy. "The windows hadn't been open in months," which emphasizes that her heart hasn't been open to any other guy but the guy she loves. The reason she came to London was to get rid of everything going on her mind. Maddy is smart but just made a stupid decision of loving the wrong guy. Maddy wasn't very well known like her sister. The author makes this character seem so realistic, that I can put my feet into Maddy's shoes. I feel like I am Maddy.
